I’m furious about the hypocrisy in South Carolina Senate Bill S.323. Don’t let the name fool you—this bill is NOT “Pro-Life.” It is purely Pro-Control and Pro-Punishment.
S.323 aims to:
- Criminalize abortion at the moment of conception as a homicide
- Completely remove exceptions for rape, incest, and fatal fetal anomaly
- Criminalize anyone who aids an abortion, including telling a friend about Plan B or driving your daughter across state lines to get emergency care
- Jeopardize access to IVF, birth control (the pill), emergency contraceptives (planB), and IUD’s
- Make providing information about abortion unlawful, including via a website or phone call
- Require public school students to watch a propaganda video called “Meet Baby Olivia,” produced by the anti-abortion group Live Action
…and more.
This legislation is a disgrace. It promotes torture and sets up a system to penalize doctors, patients, and families simply for seeking basic, necessary care.
Worse, it protects rapists and abusers while turning women and young girls into forced vessels for a foster care system that is already broken and overwhelmed. The people pushing this bill haven’t lifted a finger to help the children already in need. It’s about power, not protection.
We fought for a free country. We fought for freedom of religion. But now, if you don’t believe what these legislators do, you’re at risk. We don’t want a medieval Inquisition, but we seem to be heading down a dark path where people will have to start hiding to be safe.
I long for the leadership of people like Lincoln, Eisenhower, or Reagan. Leaders who understood what freedom truly means.
As Ronald Reagan once said about leaving the Democrats, I now say about the modern GOP: The Republican Party left me. And it has left all of you.
We need to stand up before our state becomes a dictatorship over our own bodies. Say NO to S.323. Protect healthcare and protect freedom.
While I Breathe. I hope.
