One of the most celebrated holidays in the United States – in the world – is New Year’s Day. We start a week ahead coming off Christmas with a football game almost every two hours leading up to New Year’s Day. It’s now time to celebrate the Super Bowl of college football and no one knows football better than the South.
There isn’t much the SEC or the ACC won’t do for a good football game. This, year South Carolinians traveled to take on the “Fighting Illini” from Illinois. Now to be honest I had no idea what an Illini was and googled it just to see what their mascot would be. I find out they don’t have one because it is a Native American Indian Chief Illiniwe, who was the mascot from 1920 to 2007.
Unlike the Florida Seminoles, Illinois could not work out an agreement and be proud of their heritage. They are now considering a Belted Bluefish. I craved Cheez-it’s the first quarter of the game until I saw a sports reporter sitting in a golf cart full of them and another reporter eating them after the other guy sat on them.
I did like the Cheez-it Mascot!
In hindsight Illinois did not need a mascot, They have Big Hoss “Bret Bielema” Coach who undoubtedly did his share of steroids in his younger days, he also never saw a box of Cheez-it’s he did not like. He had just had his cheeky grin whitened too. I did struggle with his last name at first but I knew it was NOT bulimia.
As disappointing as the final score was I was quite proud of Our Gamecocks and even more excited we did not have to bail Shane out or get him out of the hospital. If we had turned him loose I can’t imagine him running into the Hulk!
Actually I have a mental picture and it upset me and I have tried to erase it. Then, the much anticipated New Years Day game between Georgia and Norte Dame was planned for the iconic city of New Orleans. If you have never been there it’s just like it appears on TV and movies. Jazz music in the bars and speakeasies along Bourbon Street. Lots of smoke and alcohol smells and lots of partying and laughs and music.
Bourbon Street is not the place you feel you would get run over by a big white Ford truck. You might want to worry more about pickpocket or a beggar.
What happened at 3 am New Years morning was an attack of terrorism and something we cannot tolerate in the United States. And the thumb in President Elect’s eye by blowing up one of those space mobiles (cyber truck) in front of Trump Tower in Las Vegas is actually a middle finger to our country.
We need to fight these people on their soil not ours and if these home grown terrorists want to be one of them, that’s who we need to pack up and mass deport, not moms and dads and kids.
Let’s find those who want to harm us and remove them. These people are proud of there terrorist ideology. They want to brag about it – remove them. Let Americans brag about that!
