I wonder if I should be more concerned for South Carolina or for the entire United States.
Day 1 our president elect plans to begin mass deportations. What is this plan? Should there not be a plan to finish the wall and tighten the current issues with new illegal immigration?
Will open air detention centers he plans be like the Polish ghettos, where a certain class of people are gathered up and put behind a wall so the government can control them?
Personally it scares me. Who will do the work these people have been doing? Who will farm, be the builder helpers, do the grunt jobs that we as Americans are “too good” to do?
Who will pay the bill to feed and house these prisoners, guard them and their children, the ones that we are saying we will educate while they are confined until they are processed. We are talking over 20 million people.
We “say” we will not separate families? Many of these people are hard workers who pay taxes, who send their children to school – even college – here. This is the only home that many of these families have ever known.
If we tell the truth we are all immigrants and most of us did not pay a price to come here or take a test to stay. I can honestly say I have seen some of the man-on-the-street episodes and there are “real” Americans that don’t know a lot about this country.
I am no bleeding heart, but I am human. Look around at your children and think how you would feel if you had to decide whether to leave them behind, where you know they will be safe or take them back to a country you escaped to make a better life or in some cases to escape death. These are real 3 and 4 year olds and real teenagers.
It’s not a movie where the President is a hero saving us from vicious monsters. If he wants to do that, hunt down the criminals, the drug dealers, the human traffickers and put them in a real prison and deport them. That is what needs to happen on Day 1.
Don’t destroy families. Destroy those who want to destroy families.
