The Good, The Bad and The Really Ugly of South Carolina Politics

What’s Up in 2025 in the Legislature?

I’m not sure why I decided to take on the task of reading pre-filed legislation but I was having trouble falling asleep and thought for certain this would do it.

It was good to see some of the things we didn’t get through last year are being supported by some senators and hopefully they will make it to the floor. Some legislators appeared to have messy divorces in a previous life because there were a lot of personal vendettas trying to get into law.

There are certain legislators that dominate the pre-files and I’m pretty sure they are fully aware when legislative council is typing away on bills they have introduced the last 10 years and they know the outcome. They will all end up in someone’s desk drawer.

I was not at all surprised at the re-introduction of yet another “Human Life Protection Act” bill introduced in the House. The proponents preach freedom for all, but they just mean freedom for all men. You would think the very restrictive legislation passed last year would have given them what they want but that will never be. Women’s health care in this state is only better than Texas where they chase you down to other states to catch you if you get healthcare in that other state. You should be scared but we accept this and move on.

The Senate will discuss a hate crimes bill but now, with even a smaller minority, it has a small chance of passing.

I was shocked to see a legislator who fought against a bill I tried to pass before is now the primary sponsor. Imagine that!

I was disappointed that no one stepped up to the plate to feed the children in South Carolina schools, but did ask for funding for personal security.

Times are a changing my friends.
