Holiday Depression? Let’s Not!

No one has the market on Holiday Depression.

Christmas is over and you are either excited about what you received or you are disappointed you didn’t receive it.  Either way that shouldn’t be what Christmas is about. Some folks sit around and pout and some just move on. Moving on is the best option!

Loosing a loved one over the holidays is tragic and it can effect that holiday for years to come; loss can effect everyone around you for years to come.  I know this because I’ve lost someone near Christmas and I’ve let it affect me and others.

Holidays; we get together with our loved ones and sometimes we have a tendency to talk about the ones not there or even the ones there while they aren’t listening instead of just enjoying that time together.  I bought myself the best sweatshirt this year, It says You Can’t Throw Stones While Washing Feet.  Truer words were never spoken.   We are all guilty and we know it.

Some are depressed for just the opposite reason.  Some folks have no one to talk to.  No one to visit, no decorations or presents under a tree.  Some are getting their meals from the local food pantry or not at all.

Maybe we should sit back, relax and enjoy what we have and if we have extra give to those who don’t and don’t begrudge or brag about it.  Only give from the heart and never wonder what someone does with a gift given from the heart.  Just knowing you gave it for the right reason should be enough to help solve most of our depression.

Maybe we should all make a New Years resolution, one that we might try and keep.  I’ll bet if we try really hard we could only tell the truth, no matter how hard it hurts, be kind to those who are less fortunate, and if you can’t say something nice, walk away.  None of these resolutions will cost you a dime but it might cure your depression and someone else’s.
